Everything was happening and it was happening all at once. I saw you and I felt lovely and splendid and I felt them both at once. But when you left something snapped inside my chest, something I hadn't even known existed. It snapped with a crack and it didn't matter who came along, whatever it was it was irreparably broken. Whatever it was kept it beating though, just so I could feel the pain of the thump thump against my bones. A constant reminder that even shatterproof glass can be smashed. You can protect something with your life, but someone will come along and they will find a way to break it. The aim of the game is to break theirs first.
